Credit usage and pricing explained
Understanding credit-based pricing
Credit-based pricing charges credits for each operation performed on a document page.
A credit is used for:
Each page of a document.
Each operation applied to that page.
Credit-based pricing ensures that you pay only for what you use. Costs are determined by the number of pages and the specific operations involved.
Calculating credits
Each page of your document requires one credit per operation. For example:
One page, one operation: Converting a one-page TIFF file to a PDF costs 1 credit.
Five pages, one operation: Converting a five-page TIFF to a five-page PDF costs 5 credits (each page costs 1 credit).
Five pages, two operations: Converting a five-page TIFF to a PDF and optimizing the PDF file costs 10 credits (5 pages x 2 operations).
Only PDF to PDF/A conversion is charged at 2 credits per operation, all other operations cost 1 credit.
Understanding operations
An operation is any action performed on a document using the Pdftools SDK. Common operations include:
File conversions: Converting files to or from PDF (for example, TIFF to PDF, PDF to image).- Compressing or optimizing PDFs.
Merging files or extracting pages, adding signatures, encrypting, or annotating PDFs.
Each time you apply an operation to one or more pages, credits are charged based on each page affected by the operation.
Estimating your credit needs
To determine how many credits you'll need for your tasks, follow this formula:
Number of pages x number of operations = total credits used
For example:
Three-page PDF, one operation: Converting a three-page TIFF to PDF requires 3 credits (1 per page).
Three-page PDF, two operations: Converting a three-page PDF and then compressing it requires 6 credits (3 pages x 2 operations).
Three-page PDF, PDF/A conversion: Converting a three-page PDF to PDF/A requires 6 credits (3 pages x 2 credits).
Only PDF to PDF/A conversion is charged at 2 credits per operation, all other operations cost 1 credit.
Using multiple operations on a single file
Credits are calculated for every operation applied. If multiple actions are performed on a file, credits are consumed for each operation. For example:
Four pages, two operations: Converting and compressing a four-page PDF costs 8 credits (4 pages x 2 operations).
Four pages, three operations: Converting, compressing, and adding a watermark to a four-page PDF costs 12 credits (4 pages x 3 operations).
